This November, Russell Button, founder of The Button Law Firm, delivered a compelling presentation at the Texas Trial Lawyers Association’s Annual Meeting & CLE Seminar, “TBI: The Mechanics of the Injured Brain.” His session, titled “Pediatric TBI Cases and Developing Child Injury Damages,” focused on the unique challenges associated with traumatic brain injuries in children and how attorneys can better advocate for young clients and their families.
Russell, one of our daycare and child injury lawyers, was honored to share his experience with fellow trial lawyers. “I’m incredibly grateful to TTLA for inviting me to speak on a topic that means so much to me,” he said. “It’s an opportunity to help other attorneys make a difference in the lives of children and families navigating unimaginable challenges.”
Highlighting the Long-Term Impact of Pediatric TBIs
In his presentation, Russell explored how TBIs affect children differently than adults, often resulting in long-term developmental, educational, and emotional challenges. He emphasized the need for attorneys to understand the full scope of these injuries and to account for future care and support in their cases.
“Children with TBIs face a lifetime of obstacles, and it’s our job as trial lawyers to ensure they have the resources and support they need to thrive,” Russell explained during the session. “This requires us to look beyond immediate damages and build a comprehensive case that reflects the long-term reality for these families.”
By sharing insights from his extensive experience with child injury cases, Russell equipped attendees with tools to approach pediatric TBI cases with greater precision and compassion. His practical tips on presenting damages in court focused on weaving medical facts with the human story behind the injury, ensuring that juries understand the full impact on the child’s life.
Connecting with TTLA Community
The TTLA Annual Meeting wasn’t just an opportunity for Russell to speak; it was also a chance to reconnect with a community of passionate and dedicated trial lawyers. Reflecting on the event, Russell noted the importance of collaboration and the camaraderie shared among attendees.
“It’s always inspiring to be surrounded by attorneys who are just as committed to fighting for justice as you are,” he said. “TTLA fosters an environment of learning and support that’s invaluable to our work as trial lawyers.”
Russell particularly enjoyed engaging in discussions with peers about recent case strategies, new legal precedents, and innovative approaches to advocacy. Events like this, he believes, are vital for staying ahead in a field where every case can shape a client’s future.
Gratitude and Moving Forward
As the seminar concluded, Russell expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to such an impactful event. “I’m thankful to TTLA for providing a platform to share knowledge and for the chance to learn from some of the best minds in our profession,” he said.
Russell left the event feeling invigorated and ready to apply what he’d learned in his practice. “This seminar reaffirmed why we do what we do,” he remarked. “Every child deserves a chance at a brighter future, and it’s up to us as trial lawyers to make that happen.”
