Russell at the HABI conferenceA Personal Connection to the TBI Community

This month, I had the privilege of speaking at The Hope After Brain Injury Conference—an experience that I am deeply grateful for. Years ago, when one of my closest friends suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI), I attended HABI support groups searching for ways to help. I saw firsthand how life after a TBI is filled with challenges most people can’t see or fully understand.

The Importance of Support for TBI Survivors

That’s why getting to speak to medical professionals, caregivers, and TBI survivors at this conference meant so much to me. The road to recovery after a brain injury isn’t just about physical healing—it’s about navigating the emotional, financial, and legal complexities that come with it. Survivors often face a long and uncertain path, and having a strong support system can make all the difference.

The Challenge of Invisible Injuries

One of the biggest challenges TBI survivors face is that their injuries are often invisible. They may look "fine" on the outside, but inside, they’re battling memory loss, cognitive struggles, personality changes, and overwhelming fatigue.

These symptoms can make daily life incredibly difficult, yet many survivors struggle to get the support they need because their pain isn’t as obvious as other injuries. Too often, they are dismissed by insurance companies, employers, or even the legal system simply because their suffering isn’t immediately apparent.

The Role of Legal Advocacy in TBI Recovery

That’s why we do what we do at The Button Law Firm. As an attorney, my goal is to help survivors and their families get the resources, care, and justice they deserve. The right legal support can make all the difference in their ability to rebuild their lives. During my presentation, I emphasized the importance of hiring an attorney who truly understands the complexities of TBI cases.

"No matter what type of legal issue you’re facing—whether it’s a civil case, disability benefits, a special needs trust, or guardianship—you need an attorney with experience handling TBI cases. These cases are intricate, with unique challenges and needs that must be addressed as early as possible to ensure the best outcome."

How The Button Law Firm Supports TBI Clients

At BLF, we take a hands-on approach to supporting our TBI clients.

"We don’t just handle the legal aspects of a TBI case—we take on the role of centralizing care for our clients. We know that many survivors struggle to advocate for themselves, so we work to ensure they get the medical treatment, rehabilitation, and resources they need to move forward."

This means helping them navigate medical appointments, dealing with insurance companies, and ensuring they receive appropriate rehabilitation and financial support. We believe that no TBI survivor should have to go through this journey alone.

A Heartfelt Thank You to the TBI Community

A huge thank you to Dr. Deana Adams, Ph.D., LPC-S, and Patti Foster for the invitation and for their dedication to the TBI community. Their work is truly life-changing, and it was an honor to be part of such an impactful event. I left the conference feeling even more inspired to continue fighting for TBI survivors and making sure they get the justice and support they deserve.
