The Shocking Incident at Small World Daycare
A recent case of daycare abuse has emerged from Blaine, Minnesota, where two daycare workers at Small World Daycare Center were caught on surveillance footage mistreating multiple infants. The disturbing footage led to the arrests of Elizabeth Wiemerslage and Chloe Johnson in July. The case was discussed on a recent segment of the Sidebar Podcast on Law&Crime Network. Ashley Knarr, managing partner of The Button Law Firm, shared her insights on daycare injury lawsuits.

Although The Button Law Firm does not represent the families affected in this case, Ashley Knarr was invited to the discussion due to her extensive experience handling daycare abuse and injury cases. She highlighted the dangers of untrained and unsupervised daycare workers, emphasizing how these systemic failures contribute to child abuse in daycare settings.
Ashley Knarr’s Insights on the Small World Daycare Incident
"First and foremost, as soon as I heard about this case—shock. Absolute shock. What happened here is every working parent’s worst nightmare because parents have the right to expect that when they put their kids in daycare, they will be kept safe, nurtured, and, most importantly, they will never be subjected to this type of abuse," said Knarr during the segment.
Further Investigation and Fired Daycare Workers
The investigation into Small World Daycare Center revealed alarming details about how the infants were treated. Surveillance footage showed Wiemerslage and Johnson roughly handling the children, including shoving an infant onto a changing table, dragging a child by the legs, and pressing down on their torso and abdomen.
Knarr pointed out that this case reflects a broader issue within the daycare industry: "What we have here is a classic case of a daycare hiring bad caregivers, failing to train them on how to handle children, and most obviously, a daycare continuously failing to supervise their employees. It's a systematic failure of this daycare and allowing this to happen to kids that they were hired to keep safe."
Legal Implications and the Importance of Surveillance Footage
With clear surveillance footage capturing the abuse, this case demonstrates how video evidence is crucial in holding negligent daycare centers accountable. The footage ensures that the perpetrators face justice and exposes the daycare’s failure to protect the children in their care.
"It is frightening to imagine what else could have happened here if there wasn’t footage. Surveillance cameras are the best thing to happen to child safety in daycares. They protect the children, and in this case, they hold the daycare accountable when they endanger a child. We always recommend to parents that they only use daycares with surveillance footage in all classrooms, all the time," Knarr stated.
