YMCA of Central Texas Faces Lawsuit Over Daycare Abuse, As Reported by KVUE
A shocking lawsuit against the YMCA of Central Texas has been featured on KVUE, detailing disturbing allegations of child abuse at a Pflugerville daycare. The Button Law Firm, representing three families, has taken legal action to hold the organization accountable after surveillance footage revealed multiple instances of abuse by a daycare worker.
Surveillance Footage Uncovers Disturbing Abuse
According to KVUE’s report, the lawsuit alleges that Geraline Browning, a caregiver at the YMCA Childcare Development Center inside Northwest Elementary School, repeatedly mistreated toddlers between the ages of 2 and 3. Video evidence from January and February 2024 shows several alarming incidents, including:
- Choking a child for six seconds
- Forcefully grabbing a child by the neck and pushing them to the floor
- Knocking a child over, causing them to hit their head on a cabinet
These actions, captured on surveillance footage, have led to criminal charges against Browning for injury to a child.
YMCA’s Delayed Response Raises Concerns
The lawsuit claims that the YMCA of Central Texas failed to act immediately after the abuse came to light. While the organization states that Browning was suspended upon learning of the allegations, the complaint alleges she remained on staff until the Pflugerville ISD Police Department intervened.
The YMCA maintains that it followed proper procedures, including notifying parents, Child Protective Services (CPS), and law enforcement. However, families argue that the organization’s failure to prevent these incidents demonstrates negligence in ensuring a safe environment for children.
The Button Law Firm Fights for Accountability
Attorney Russell Button, representing the affected families, emphasized the emotional and psychological impact on the young victims.
"Surveillance footage confirmed a caregiver’s disturbing pattern of dangerous discipline against innocent toddlers," Button told KVUE. "This type of abuse should never happen, and we are committed to ensuring the YMCA is held accountable."
The lawsuit seeks justice for the families and aims to drive necessary changes within the YMCA’s daycare operations to prevent future harm.
A Long Road to Healing
Following these revelations, the affected families have removed their children from the YMCA daycare. The trauma caused by these incidents will require long-term recovery, but The Button Law Firm remains dedicated to guiding these families through the legal process.
