Upset Child from YMCA LawsuitLegal Action Taken Following Shocking Daycare Incidents

As reported by Law&Crime, The Button Law Firm has filed a lawsuit on behalf of three families against the YMCA of Central Texas. The lawsuit stems from security footage that revealed a disturbing pattern of inappropriate and harmful treatment of young children at a Pflugerville daycare program. The YMCA failed to properly supervise staff, allowing multiple incidents of mistreatment to occur over several weeks.

Alarming Discovery on Video Footage Leads to Investigation at Pflugerville Daycare

According to Law&Crime, the case unfolded in 2024 when a YMCA Senior Program Director contacted Pflugerville ISD’s Human Resources Director for assistance in reviewing security footage to locate a child’s missing shoe. During the call, the HR Director witnessed a YMCA caregiver, Geraline Browning, subjecting children to inappropriate discipline methods.

The footage reportedly shows Browning seated and preoccupied with her phone while children played in a small, makeshift enclosure. The video then captures Browning walking over to a child, aggressively grabbing her by the arm, and forcing her to sit on the floor. When the child cried in distress, Browning grabbed her by the throat, choked her, and shook her while she struggled to break free. The child’s mother later reported that her daughter frequently returned home with unexplained bruises and scratches, which the YMCA could not explain.

Additional Inappropriate Behavior Uncovered at the YMCA

Following the initial discovery, security footage was reviewed, uncovering nine other incidents of inappropriate childcare methods between January 29 and February 21, 2024. These incidents, as outlined by Law&Crime, included staff roughly grabbing children by their necks, pulling them forcefully, and leaving them unsupervised. The evidence highlighted a dangerous lack of proper oversight and training at the facility.

According to the article, despite being made aware of these incidents, the YMCA failed to immediately report them to state authorities or inform the parents of at least two affected children, violating Texas childcare regulations. Instead, the YMCA suspended Browning before ultimately terminating her employment only after law enforcement became involved.
